As I wont get the opportunity to do this later, so I would like to raise a glass of mead to you all this Christmastide, and wish you all a very Happy Christmas! May Santa bring you some nice goodies, and maybe that little black dress you desperately want. I’ must apologise for my lack of posts over the past month. Life has been rather hectic for me. I’ve been working two jobs, and writing my book; the first draft of which needs to be with the publisher by the beginning of March! Plus I’ve been busily preparing for Christmas with my family and Bex. So, I haven’t forgotten you my beloved readers.
I’ve just had conformation this morning that it’s official; Rose and Jackie Tyler will feature in the Christmas Special. There have been some pictures of them leaked online, both of them were filming scenes in the quarry which doubles for the Ood Sphere, and in the snow covered streets of Cardiff. They join Captain Jack and the Master in the Tenth Doctor’s final story. The End of Time, Part One will be shown Christmas Day at 6.00pm, and Part Two will air New Years Day 6.40pm.
Is anyone else bored with Stargate Universe? SGU is trying its damn hardest to be something it’s not. A Quarter of a way into the series, and nothing seems to be happening. It was advertised as “edgy” and “gritty” drama, trying to take a leaf out of Battlestar Galactica’s book. That’s where it falls down. There is no threat to the characters. They are stuck on a spaceship in another galaxy, and all we get handed to us is some petty rivalries between the military personal and civilians on board. What makes it worse is the fact they can visit Earth whenever they like, via these Ancient communication devices that allows them to swap bodies with people on Earth. So this dulls the tension aboard ship. The very thing that made BSG edgy and gritty was the fact that any of the main characters could be killed off at any moment, you didn’t know who would survive to the end of the series. BSG was brave, bold, and daring. It took Sci-Fi television to new heights. No other American show would see the main protagonists committing acts of terrorism, by using suicide bombers against the Cylons and their human collaborators during the occupation of New Caprica.
I doubt SGU will be as daring, and that’s what will turn the viewers off.
The fifth series of Doctor Who is really beginning to hot up! I can now confirm that the Weeping Angels, last seen in Blink, are returning alongside River Song in what has been billed to be a two-parter written by Steven Moffatt, possibly episodes four and five. I can also confirm the Silurians are back for two-parter as well, episodes eight and nine, set within the confines of a Church and its grounds. The big rumour circulating is about the possible return of the Cybermen for the final two episodes of the series. Speculation suggest that these will be Cybermen from our universe, and not the Cybus ones that were created in a parallel universe in Rise of the Cybermen. The Daleks are also set to return in an unusual story written by Mark Gatiss, which I reported earlier here.
As always I will keep you updated with all the latest gossip!
Michael Moorcock has confirmed on his website Moorcock’s Miscellany that he is due to write a book for Doctor Who. “Looks like it’s official,” Moorcock says. “I’ll be doing a new Dr Who novel (not a tie-in) for appearance, I understand, by next Christmas. Still have to have talks etc. with producers and publishers but we should be signing shortly. Should be fun.”
Former Doctor Who head writer Russell T. Davies has commented that Torchwood will be coming back for a fourth series. “We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a fourth season,” Davies says. There is no news yet to whether John Barrowman is to return as Captain Jack, or if there is going to be any new members joining the Torchwood team. It is still early days, yet rumours have been circulating for a while that it will return.
I should really update my blog! So here is one. What I’m doing right now? Listening to Robbie Williams, which is my new love affair. Well, with his music of course. I never liked him before, but Bex has been watching him a lot on television in the build up to his new album, and I have fallen in love with the track Bodies (see below).
In other news, Bex and I have been invited away by another couple to spend a weekend in a cottage. What’s so special about that, you maybe asking? It’s for crossdressers and their partners. We are looking to take them up on the offer and arrange the trip for sometime next year.
Doctor Who is on Sunday! I’ve been looking forward to it ever since seeing the Doctor’s appearance in the Sarah Jane Adventures a couple of weeks back. Well, that’s a lie, as I’ve been looking forward to the Waters of Mars since Easter! Tune into BBC1 on Sunday at 7pm. It’s meant to be the scariest adventure yet!!
Gemma – Remembering those have laid down their lives for us, now and in the past.
Gemma to the rescue! Today I helped an elderly lady after she collapsed on the bus. Using my skills as a qualified First Aider, I knew exactly what to do, and more importantly, what questions her about her health. The lady said she didn’t recall much, and she was sweating quite badly. At first I thought she might be having a heart attack, so I questioned her about her heart. The lady, who is in her 80s, said she had no history of heart disease or blacking out. The symptoms she showed did not point towards her having a mild stroke, which was lucky. I concluded that she overheated after going from the cold to the warmth of the bus. A middle-aged woman decided that we should sit the elderly lady down once she got off the bus, and dispatched me to find her son and inform him on the situation. An ambulance was called and the paramedics checked her over and praised us for our quick thinking and initiative.
Moving on, I keep meeting transgendered folk that are into role-playing games! A couple of weeks back I met Andrew and Jamie who I know from Roses Forum. Andrew is somewhat of a pro-gamer who enjoys visiting RPG Cons, and Jamie is new to the hobby and is trying to find her feet. I’ve recently started chatting to Stacey via Flickr, and as it turns out, she is a role-player too! Soon we will have enough players for a transgendered RPG game! The only major disadvantage to this is we live to far apart to make it a regular occurrence, and that is if we ever got something off the ground. For the moment, we are quite content to meet up at Cons, (which I may have to invite Stacey to one). The next one I’m going to is Dragonmeet at the end of November. Dragonmeet rocks! I go every year to soak up the wonderful pre-Christmas atmosphere – and buy GAMES!!
Bex is looking to start voluntary work, and the one thing Bex loves more than anything, well a apart from me obviously, is cats. We have been in contact with the people are the Cats Protection charity, and Bex has an appointment to see someone a week on Tuesday. Working with Cats Protection will keep Bex out of mischief, and what’s more importantly, give her something to do. She loves cats and has a great knowledge about the species. She even has two of her own, which is really important, and has grown up with them. She still insists that in the future she wants a breeding pair of Maine Coon, and wants to call them Louis and Clarke. Did I tell you Bex is a huge Superman fan? Hopefully the meeting with the lady from the Cats Protection will go well and they will find her something to do.
